‘Mental Wellbeing ’ is often used as a substitute for mental wellbeing conditions – such as depression, anxiety conditions, schizophrenia, and others.
According to the World Health Organisation, however, mental wellbeing is “a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.”
So rather than being about ‘what’s the problem?’ It’s really about ‘What’s going well?’ At Hypnotherapy Perth we can assist you in many ways to see the better and more positive way of living. Minimize

Depression
What is Depression?
Hypnosis really can assist with management of your depression and depressive tendencies.
The World Health Organisation gives the following definition of depression: “Depression is a common mental disorder, characterized by sadness, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, feelings of tiredness and poor concentration.”
There will be people who will visit this site, and probably many others as well, looking for a magic wand, a little magic pill. They want, or are under the illusion, that hypnosis or hypnotherapy is a magic wand that can be waved at them and Hey Presto! they are “cured”. Unfortunately, these people will most likely, but not always, be disappointed. Please do not misunderstand, miracles (or seemingly miraculous results) can and DO happen, however, in most cases, it is good old fashioned commitment and an honest desire to change that are heavily involved in the process, of ANY therapy, management or treatment for depression.
And coincidentally, it is these two elements of desire and commitment that truly do open the door to miracles!
A word of advice or caution for those who are depressed and looking for answers, (or the loved one wanting to assist) – start slowly. What is meant by this is that in most cases, one should hold a reasonable expectation of feeling less awful instead of expecting to feel great in a hurry. A little progress every day adds up to big results! Expecting quick and dramatic fixes or results almost always produces disappointment and a deepening or worsening of a person’s depression or depressed state. That said, depression hypnosis becomes a very rapid and effective way to manage the symptoms of depression, because it communicates directly with the part of the brain responsible. The subconscious mind!
There are several general areas in which hypnosis can help people manage depression. These areas include but are not limited to:
- Beliefs and thoughts about capability
- Beliefs and thoughts about self worth
- Beliefs and thoughts about past, present or future
- Beliefs and thoughts about parents, siblings, children, family and friends
- Beliefs and thoughts concerning spirituality
- Perceptions of current and past personal events and resulting impact on client
And many more old, harmful beliefs and thoughts can be identified and nullified while at the same time a client is also guided to take pro-active steps in order to change their situation as appropriate.
The human brain is indeed one of the most powerful organs in the body and it is also the main organ that functions during hypnotherapy – specifically the subconscious mind. Hypnosis also makes use of your imagination. The whole therapy focuses on establishing coping mechanisms directly through the subconscious mind and this can allow clients to make behaviour modifications and to refocus their attention. Communication with the subconscious mind allows a person to quickly locate the root causes behind the depression, as well as all of the compounded symptoms that exacerbate the problem. Because depression hypnosis works directly with the subconscious mind, it allows an individual to bypass the conscious critical self, and discover the real reason they feel so terribly negative, down or anxious and to disconnect from the “triggers”.
How can we help?
The new skills and good mental messages learned in a hypnotherapy session for depression can be used to counter the effects of depressing thoughts and ideas. Hypnotherapy doesn’t only empower a person with these new skills; it may also help them to discover the roots of the depression. However, we do not usually regress a person as a way to “treat” depression. Our approach is to look at where a person is now (acknowledging where they have come from) and where they want to be into the future. We may at times use NLP and reframing techniques within the hypnotherapy session, once trance has been induced, to assist with achieving the client’s outcome. Hypnosis for depression is a variety of clinical hypnotherapy that focuses on both the management of depression and depressive symptoms as well as any negativity or anxiety, as these often go hand in hand with depression.
Hypnotherapy is NOT offered as an alternative to or replacement of your medication, doctor or mental health practitioner. Rather, it is offered as an allied therapy, a tool with which to empower yourself and a therapy to combine with and support your mental health plan, medication regime and treatment by your doctor, counsellor, psychologist or mental health practitioner.
Anger Management
What is Anger Management?
Here at Hypnotherapy Perth, we can assist you with your anger management issues. Dave has worked extensively with people who have had major issues with their anger – including those who have been in trouble with the law and ended up in court. Through coaching and hypnotherapy he has been able to assist them with their anger and ensure they are able to manage it confidently going forward. With his help some have even had favourable outcomes in their court cases.
See below for a little more on anger and how hypnosis can assist with anger management.
Do you feel that your anger is really out of control? Do you think that it is having an impact on your relationships and on important parts of your life? Has it affected your work or even gotten you in trouble with the law? Are you violent towards your partner, family or other people? Do you deliberately break things or damage property? Do you regularly argue with those close to you or do you feel angry constantly but feel unable to express yourself? Do you feel out of control when you are angry and are worried about what you might do?
If you answered yes to even one of those questions then you may have an anger management issue. Recognising that you have a problem with your anger or anger management can be difficult. You may think being angry is just the way you are, or you may not recognise your symptoms as anger related. If so, then hypnotherapy may be the best option for you to learn how to handle your anger more effectively. Here at Hypnotherapy Perth, we can work with you in developing a range of techniques for changing your thinking, how you express your feelings and how you behave in response to your emotions.
People generally experience a variety of emotions throughout the course of each day, and for most people they will be able to control their feelings and respond to their emotions appropriately. However, there are others that fight to control their temper and this affects not only them but their close friends, workmates and relatives. This can have devastating consequences for relationships and even employment!
Other problems such as stress, anxiety or even depression can also be linked with anger management problems and all of these issues can be helped with hypnotherapy.
Anger can be shown in a number of forms, from social discomfort and general aggravation to violent outbursts over minor situations, ‘road rage’ is one of these such incidents! Long term, unresolved anger can create a downward spiral bringing about mental health problems including depression symptoms, as well as health concerns such as elevated blood pressure.
How can we help?
Hypnotherapy can help in several ways and the initial aim of the session will be to understand the root cause of your anger which often stem from past experiences or assumptions and beliefs about how things or people should or should not behave.
These experiences can shape your behaviour and belief system. So while you may think another person or situation is causing your anger, it may well come from yourself.
Your hypnotherapist will work on a conscious and unconscious level to help change your negative or unhelpful thought processes and help to change your reaction to anger triggers. Instead of feeling overwhelmed and angry, you should feel calmer and more relaxed and because you feel calmer in stressful situations you will be able to think more clearly, thus reacting in a more appropriate way.
You may also be encouraged to consider forgiveness and non-judgement of the person whom you think has wronged you. Forgiveness can mean that you allow old issues to let go more easily and forget about them.
Anger management hypnotherapy can also help with some of the symptoms of anger. For example, if you are suffering from anxiety, stress or depression, hypnotherapy can be helpful. Substance and alcohol are also often involved and if this is the case for you then this can also be addressed during hypnotherapy.
The number of hypnotherapy sessions for anger management that you require will depend on your individual circumstances.
Anxiety and Stress
What is Anxiety?
Hypnosis really can assist with management of anxiety and associated symptoms and tendencies.
The Oxford Dictionary defines anxiety as: “a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome” or “a strong desire or concern to do something or for something to happen”
Anxiety is more than just feeling stressed or worried. Stress and anxious feelings are a common response to a situation where a person feels under pressure but these responses, feelings or reactions usually passe once the stressful situation has passed, or the ‘stressor’ has been removed. Anxiety, however, is when these anxious feelings don’t subside and are ongoing and exist without any particular reason or cause. It is a serious condition that makes it hard for a person to cope with daily life. We all feel anxious from time to time, but for a person experiencing anxiety, these feelings cannot be easily controlled.
Stress, worry, fear and panic are words that people often use to describe anxiety. It is important to note that anxiety is a normal human emotion, however if it happens too often or is present for long periods of time, it can be distressing and disabling. Research suggests that all anxiety disorders involve fear of something and this usually leads people to avoiding things that trigger the fear. People with one type of anxiety disorder often have symptoms of another type of anxiety disorder.
There are several major types of anxiety and these include but are not limited to:
- Generalised Anxiety Disorder
- Social Phobia or Social Anxiety Disorder
- Specific Phobias and Anxieties
- Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder – OCD
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder – PTSD
As with depression in most cases, a client or client’s loved ones and support team should hold a reasonable expectation of feeling less awful instead of expecting to feel great or “cured” in a hurry. A little progress every day adds up to big results! Expecting quick and dramatic fixes or results almost always produces disappointment and a deepening or worsening of a person’s anxiety or disorder. Past Life Regression
Past Life Regression Hypnosis
Past Life Hypnotherapy is a process of allowing your Subconscious or Higher Self to communicate directly with you using regression hypnosis.Hypnosis Therapy is based on the premise that physical illnesses and life issues originate from deeply rooted beliefs in our Subconscious and this may include traumatic events from our childhood and past lives.
Past life regression hypnotherapy begins with inducing you into the Somnambulistic state of hypnotic trance. It is in this state that you can gain access to experiences of Past Lives you have lived. Another important aspect of this involves exploring with you and contacting and communicating with an infinitely knowledgeable and powerful aspect of yourself (The Subconscious or Higher Self). This part of yourself, for discovery, is always present with you and exists just below the surface of your conscious mind which is the subconscious. The Subconscious is what gives you access to your past lives and it performs instantaneous healings when appropriate. The Subconscious contains the answers to any question you may have about yourself or the life you are living.
Past Life Regression involves you being regressed and guided through a past life from the initial scene you first view, throughout the various scenes in the life and eventually through to the death scene. All of this is done safely and with emotional detachment so that you experience no physical or emotional anguish or discomfort during or after the process. Contacting the subconscious is the next component.
The Subconscious has the ability to identify and convey any physical problem it detects within the body, be it from the current life or a Past Life. Once a body scan is complete, The Subconscious is then asked if it is suitable for healing to occur, which, if it is, is done instantaneously with no medication, surgery or pain involved. Very often, simply understanding why a disease is present or why a particular emotion is being experienced is sufficient for it to be relieved and removed by the Subconscious. Any questions or concerns you have will be shared with the Subconscious during this time and the messages, answers and insights shared by the Subconscious are profound and often life altering. Nothing is beyond the realm of possibility. There are no limitations, except the limits of your own imagination.

Phobias and Fears
What are Fears and Phobias?
Fears (False Evidence Appearing Real) are nothing too much to worry about but phobias should be dealt with properly since they can have a huge impact on one’s life and mentality in hundred and one negative ways. The main difference between fear and phobia is that fear is a feeling felt by everyone whereas phobia is a specific medical condition.
Fear is a very common feeling each and every one of us experiences at some point in our life. It can be defined as an emotional response to a real or perceived threat. It is not abnormal to feel a little anxious when doing certain activities in our day to day life, like walking on a bridge, looking down a hill or sitting next to a chair with a spider on its arm. For most people these episodes of fear are temporary, easily handled and they do not need medical help. Hypnotherapy can assist with these Fears and Phobias.
How can we help?
We have been helping people with Fears and Phobias for many years. Dave has been very successful in helping people like yourself move through any Fear or Phobia challenge.
